How does using recyclable material benefit the environment?
We have done alot of research to come up with what we feel is a superior way of building. We were shocked at some of the information that we uncovered as we looked at conventional wood stick framing with OSB or plywood. As you compare this to our red iron steel framing with light gauge interior framing and our plastic plywood sheeting it does not take long to see why we say that we build 'green homes.'
Houses have been built with lumber for hundreds of years because it is a great product. However, because of the dwindling supply of old growth trees, quality of lumber has plummeted and the amount of trees it takes to build a single home has increased dramatically. It takes about thirty years of growth for a tree to get large enough to harvest , yet because the tree is still in its youth the lumber produced is more likely to warp and split leaving us with poorer quality to build from. Trees are getting harvested younger continually because of the huge demand and smaller supply.
An average tree(stem) about 20-24" has 50-75% use. The rest is waste. It will produce about 260-400 board feet. If all the lumber from each tree was exactly what was needed, and there was no waste in the building of the home, it would take 70 - 102 trees to frame an average 2000 sq. ft. home. When you add all the plywood for walls, floor, and roof it comes closer to 200 trees to build an average 2000 sq.ft.home.
The desire to protect our natural resources is transforming business and society. In 2003, the U.S. Green Building Council reported that "Adopting 'Green' construction practices is critical".
Experts in many fields are looking for new building strategies and technologies that will sustain affordable growth into the next century.
Steel has come to the front as one of the best solutions to help improve our building needs today. With the combination of red iron steel, light gauge non-structural walls, and exterior sheeting, that will not rot, decay, or breakdown over time, we are offering a solution to all the answers. We offer a plastic plywood for exterior sheeting that is from 100% recycled material with a min. 250yr life span. For more information
Steel is 100% recyclable. Plastics are 100% recyclable. By using these products we are protecting our natural resources.
Steel is the most recycled material in the world with over 67% of all the steel used today coming from recycled material. A typical passenger car consists of 65% steel and iron and produces about one ton of recycled steel.
Taking in consideration that it takes upwards of 100 trees to produce enough material to frame an average 2000 sq. ft. home, it only takes an average of six passenger cars being recycled to produce enough steel in order to frame the same home out of red iron and light gauge.
