How does steel compare to wood?
images from Kodiak steel homes
Whenever we as a people build any building which is expected to carry alot of weight, span a long distance, hold up against anything that nature throws at it, and be maintenance free, we use steel to do the job.
Industrial buildings use red iron steel I beams, posts, and purlins for the structure. Light gauge metal studs are used to fill in the exterior walls and to build interior walls wherever they are wanted. Because of the steel I beams' ability to span long distances, rooms are wide open without the need of bearing walls. This means that the interior walls go wherever the owner chooses to place them - (if at all).
Furmark is using this same style of durable steel framing, introducing it with a PLASTIC PLYWOOD SHEETING
and bringing it to the residential level. We believe that our homes should be just as strong, safe, and maintenance free as the buildings that we work in each day.
When most people hear about this for the first time they picture a home that looks like an industrial building. This is not the case. A steel home can look just the same as any other conventional home. The biggest difference is that metal homes have some great advantages that will be explained below.

One of the biggest questions we are asked is, "How does a steel home compare to a wood home?"
First of all, in order to compare them, the wood framed home would have to be built to a comparable standard of the steel home. Compare the strength and durability of a 4 x 4 wood post to the same of a 4 x 4 steel post.
We believe that the
   best homes are
steel framed homes.
